5th March: Open Meeting DBG

Dear DBG Dresden Members & Friends,

For our March 2015 Open Meeting we invite you to join us for a special guest talk by a member of the Deutsch-Britische Gesellschaft Oldenburg!
John Goodyear will give a talk on “The First World War: A Family Affair” and will be looking back at that conflict through his own British family’s experience, sharing some of the memorabilia and stories that have been passed down to him.
So come along, bring other interested parties, listen to this personal account of the war that “changed everything” in Britain – and decide for yourself how it came that the First World War took up such a large space in British collective memory!
John Goodyear studied German in Birmingham and London, and is Director of Studies at the Academy of English in Oldenburg, and Vice Chairman of the Deutsch-Britische Gesellschaft in Oldenburg. He has been involved in Anglo-German cultural relations for some time now, giving talks on Anglo-German cultural themes in Germany and the UK, but also in the United States or Pakistan.

The talk will be given in English, followed by a discussion in either English or German.

Entry is free, all are welcome.
