This Wednesday (Bank Holiday) we open rom 2 to 6 for coffee and cake!
An diesem Mittwoch haben wir für Sie von 14 – 18 Uhr geöffnet!

At first, I was put off by the title to be honest, but the more I read about Mr Lawrence and having started the book, I’m intrigued to read more!

Paul Morel tries to break free from his mother Gertrude but Oedipus and all the others don’t like that idea. Published in 1913, it was regarded as too sexually explicit and only later found critical acclaim. A classic of the 20th century, come and read!
Join the book club anytime (you don’t need to sign anywhere, not to worry!), we are always glad to make new acquaintances & you can buy the book in the shoppe with a 10% discount!

8.00pm to 11.00pm  at England, England

PLEASE NOTE: I am very very sorry, but I have to cancel the bookclub due to personal reasons.
My suggestion is to hold it on Tuesday the 23rd October.

A bookclub reads a book about a bookclub, but not the Jane Austen one, no, the potato one! When Juliet Ashton, a writer, receives a letter from a Guernsey bookclub just after the war, she doesn’t expect to find new and somewhat eccentric friends there.
A light, enjoyable read I should think, come and see!

8.00pm to 11.00pm  at England, England

Everybody I know (and read it) liked this book, but somehow I couldn’t warm to it – soooo, I’ll try a second time and see!
Basically it’s a story about Queen Elizabeth II discovering the pleasures of reading after she discovers a mobile library in the palace grounds. It soon affects her role as head of state, yeah I always suspected that reading may be dangerous…

What shocks you more, the thought of people indulging in weird sexual practices or eating a dog? Both? Neither?
Your response may say something about your attitude to taboos.
Some people say we’re living in the most liberal age ever. Others say our lives are still dominated by taboos.
Whether you think society is too restricted or could do with a few more taboos, why not come along and discover what others have to say on the subject? Feel free to bring your baked, sung, knitted or acted contribution to the debate. Or just your listening self.
Prepare to be provoked.
Everyone welcome.

Taboos: An evening of reflections on the subject of taboos
