A classic read for our Christmas bookclub, where mulled wine and nibbles (bring along if you like!) are usually of greater importance  than the actual book (just so you know)!

Tolkien wrote  and illustrated these letters to his children between 1920 and 1942, oh my, lucky children, no?!

We will have a newly wed couple celebrating their wedding at England, England tomorrow and therefore stay closed. Back on Sunday with breakfast!

Tomorrow, 5 years ago, England, England opened its humble doors. All the things that happened since then, can’t really be described…so much change, coming-and-going, hellos-and-goodbyes! But also so much routine, the cutting out of scones, boiling the kettle, the repetition of the everyday task. Overall, what a journey! We are opening from 12-6pm tomorrow, with a 10% discount off everything, then we will sleep all Saturday due to exhaustion, back on Sunday! Thank you everybody who came through this door and made it happen!

This has been sitting in the shop for ages, waiting to be read!

It’s  a memoir written in the forbidden language – English. At home in Dublin in the 1950s, the children of an Irish Nationalist father and a German mother who fled Nazi Germany ,are only allowed to speak either German or Irish. “Trapped in a language war”, they are the “speckled people”, they wear Aran sweaters and Lederhosen and desperately seek to belong.

Join the book club anytime (you don’t need to sign anywhere, not to worry!), we are always glad to make new acquaintances & you can buy the book in the shoppe with a 10% discount!
