I don’t know why I never really got too excited about reading T.C.Boyle, no reason whatsoever. That’s what the bookclub is for, to overcome unfounded prejudices and discover good literature by force, yes! The topic sounds very interesting indeed as it is an exploration into the possibilities of creating an artificial ecosystem, in case humankind manages to destroy the existing one any time soon.
The terranauts live in a bubble, closed off and in, “relations under glass” as Boyle puts it, I’m excited!

Yessss! Finally!

One could think there is not much left to say about this classic of English literature and other than I’m completely drawn in again, I can’t and will just leave you with your own associations (think red dress!).

Cathy and Heathcliff, here we go.

Very sorry, but this weekend (9th & 10th September) we stay closed. Back on Tuesday!

Date: 19th September 2017

Starting Time: 20:15

Euphoria! Our next read is based on the life and works of anthropologist Margret Mead, who in the 1930’s was one of the few female scientists doing field research and exploring the native tribes of New Guinea.

Nell, the fictional alter ego of Mead, not only enters the story with lots of ailments (lesions, gashes, ringworms), but is beaten about by always not quite belonging to one world or the other (the English countrymen being the stranger species).

An exciting life for sure and of course this story is also about love, yeah! When Nell and her husband are joined by a fellow scientist on their journey, a ménage-à-trois unfolds on the basis of – what’s the new word –sapiosexuality, wow!
