Please note, that the shoppe will stay closed on Tuesday, 26th February.

In 2005 in a bar in Brooklyn, a strange event took place that quickly developed into a worldwide trend: adults choosing to read out in public the embarrassing parts of long-forgotten journals, poems and other outpourings of youthful angst and wisdom.
The event was called Cringe Readings. If you have teenage diaries, love letters, embarrassing anecdotes or adolescent unfinished works of literature with cringe potential that you are ready to share with voyeuristic strangers, (or if you just want to be one of those voyeuristic strangers), then come along to

England, England on Friday 22nd February, 2013 at 8.15pm and experience Dresden’s first English Cringe Reading.
Remember: you need not be alone with the horrors of your past…

Have you read Sherlock Holmes? Or just know about him? Well that’s my history with the man and it should be changed as this figure is such an icon of British culture and I want to find out why.
A Study in Scarlet is Sir Arthur’s first novel with Holmes and Watson meeting for the first time and becoming room-mates, which inevitably leads to looking at blood and evidence of murder with the famous magnifying glass!
Join the book club anytime (you don’t need to sign anywhere, not to worry!), we are always glad to make new acquaintances & you can buy the book in the shoppe with a 10% discount!

Dear Deutsch Britische Gesellschaft Dresden Members & Friends,

For our February Open Meeting we invite you to join us for a special live music evening!

Here is what the press had to say about one of the gentlemen we will introduce you to:
“Brilliant parodies” – “remarkably unsophisticated” – “solid satanic amusement” – “a wandering minstrel with no place to wander”.

Ok, who is that? Georg Kreisler? Well, he’d certainly fit the bill, but it’s: Tom Lehrer!
In the Anglo world, Lehrer is a well known writer of satirical songs in a style Germans will readily associate with Georg Kreisler.

In an evening of unrestrained fun and satire we will hear and listen to songs by both Lehrer and Kreisler being performed by Rainer Barczaitis (vocals) and Markus Teichler (piano).

One of Lehrer’s programmes was called “An evening wasted with Tom Lehrer” – we will go one better and waste your time with Lehrer and Kreisler!

For a first impression of how the two compare, go to:
www.haverford.edu/physics-astro/songs/lehrer/lehrer.htm(Lehrer) and
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/index.html?curid=11641186 (Kreisler)

So come along, bring your friends, enjoy the music – and never mind the texts.

Entry is free, but contributions to meet our costs for the evening will be much appreciated :-)
